Overband Magnetic Separators also known as Cross Belt Magnetic Separators is used to remove ferrous particles from the materials flowing on conveyor belts by pulling the ferrous particles upwards through the material against the force of gravity. They are very powerful magnets and are usually suspended above conveyor belts. Incorporated in a motor-driven magnetic conveyor belt running across the face of the magnet, continuously moves the collected ferrous particles away from the magnetic flux area. The removed ferrous particles falls away from the belt once it leaves the magnetic field, which makes it a self-cleaning suspended magnetic separator for conveyor belts.
